Finding, Choosing and Displaying Art for your Home Simplified

Drawing + Dining Room

Art defines the look of a house and adds a unique dimension to the overall feel. However, for many, finding the perfect art and then displaying it in a right way is a tricky job.

We at Kataak.com have simplified it for you.

What kind of art do you like?

The foremost step in choosing the right art for your home is to decide what you actually like. The choices can be divided broadly into the following categories:

1) Hanging art – Includes everything from oil paintings, ceramic, abstract art to any other piece of art that can be hung on the wall.

2) Photography – Styles of photography varies but the core question is whether you will like to go for a colored one or black and white.

3) Sculpture – These can be made of a variety of materials varying from clay to metals.

4) Others – This includes everything from prints, craft or designs.

Once, you have decided upon the kind of artwork you want for your space, you can start looking at the possible places to find the fitting piece.

Where to find artwork?

If you have a good budget, then you can go for original artwork of popular artists. You can also visit the local artists in your city or exhibitions, to find affordable works. Otherwise, you can also sketch or paint something, or use a personal photograph and display it. Internet is also a good source to find good wall paintings ideas nowadays.

Pro Tip – While buying any art, take care that it has some of the colors that you’ve used in your home decor.  This will ensure that the chosen art blends well with the space.

The Display

Next problem at hand is the space you have to put up the artwork for display. In case, you are planning to put a piece or pieces of hanging art, ensure that it will in the available space and does not overwhelm the decor of the room in any way. It is ideal to place the hanging artwork, at your eye height on the wall. For sculptures, you should have an appropriate surface to display it.

Another consideration is the overall style of the room. An abstract or pop art may not look good in a traditional setting, but will go well with art that have royal touch to it.

Lighting is also an important factor while displaying art. Poor or dimply-lit spaces don’t create the impression that bright spotlights (less glares ones) could do.
