Maintenance:  Apart from proper air and light, you need to enrich the soil for healthy growth of the plants. You can add manure, leftover tea, coffee grounds, wooden ashes etc. in the soil for enrichment.  Ensure, that you have places herbs away from heating objects as they grow well in neutral and cooler environs rather than hotter ones.
